As time didn’t permit a few days on safari, we opted for a day safari. A three hours’ drive out of Camps Bay early the following morning took us into new territory, as we drove towards Ceres - home to Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Iziba Safari Lodge that spans across 10,000 hectares in the Ceres Karoo. Inverdoorn gives you the perfect opportunity to get great views of the “Big 5”, as well as providing plenty of information on their valuable cheetah conservation work. The drive out here provided us with a wealth of changing scenery, as we swiftly moved from coastal views to the vast wilderness of the Karoo. The quality Western Cape roads soon became a distant memory, as we bumped our way along dusty gravel paths that looked as if we were going into the middle of nowhere. We finally arrived at the lodge where we were greeted with snacks and drinks before climbing aboard an open jeep to embark on our first taste of an African safari.
