First stop, Camps Bay
Driving in South Africa is easy to adapt to, as they drive on the left and all signposts are in English. A 45-minute drive from the airport, along good roads, eventually brought us to the lovely beach resort of Camps Bay. And after lugging our bags up five flights of stairs, as no lift was in sight, we literally dumped our luggage in the room and hit the beach!
Camps Bay is a stunning coastal resort on the Atlantic Ocean that is set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Twelve Apostles Mountain Range. The beach here is covered with pristine white sand and is one of Cape Town’s largest and most beautiful beaches. If you fancy a quick dip in the sea here, however, be warned, as the lapping waters are freezing cold and the current is strong – as we found out all too quickly! This idyllic location has a relaxed atmosphere and is only a few minutes’ drive from Cape Town and the cableway for Table Mountain. Opposite the beach, a tree lined promenade is home to a number of restaurants and bars and nestled behind are superb homes belonging to some of Cape Town’s wealthiest residents.
