The next leg of our journey involved a trip to the small city of Salmon Arm on the shores of Shuswap Lake, which is in the Southern interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. This was a little gem of a place, as it was so much more than we expected. The lake is beautiful down by the wharf, and we saw a number of seabirds on and around the lake, including blue herons and pelicans! We walked along the wharf and around the beach area, and then we took a lovely path that meandered along by the water – there was rumoured to be beavers in the water on this route, but I think we would have had to do it extremely early in the morning to see any. There is also a lovely park and town centre, and you can get a great view of the trains as they pass adjacent to the road.

Salmon Arm is a great place for families and retired people, as it has no crime problems and seems to have a good community spirit. We spoke to a couple one evening when we were out for a meal who said they had visited the place a few years before and decided they just had to move there – and they have never looked back since!

We visited here out of season, and it was pretty quiet; but I imagine it to get extremely busy during the summer months – especially by the lake. We were lucky with the weather when we were here, too, as it was sunny each day and really warm at times!
