Over to Sentosa (Nov 2018)

My last full day in Singapore involved a trip over to Sentosa Island off Singapore’s southern coast. It has good connections to the city by cable car, road, pedestrian boardwalk, and monorail. I decided to take the monorail which was nice and smooth and didn’t take long at all – it actually took longer to queue for the tickets! Sentosa is basically a big playground for people of all ages, and it has a number of top attractions like Universal Studios, Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon. The island also boats two 18-hole championship golf courses with a luxury clubhouse, for those who enjoy the sport, as well as over a mile of protected white sand beach with beachfront dining. There is literally something here to suit everyone.

I did, however, find the island really commercialised and quite a contrast from the rest of Singapore. I obviously didn’t get chance to do everything in one day, as you definitely need a few days here to cram everything in. I would have liked to have spent some time over at the beach resort, which is apparently much quieter, as even in November Sentosa was busy. I did particularly enjoy a trip up the Tiger Tower which gave great views (430 feet up) across the island and out to sea. I must confess that as it was so hot, I did spend some time sitting in the shade with a drink!
