I was lucky to get the opportunity to attend the “One love Manchester” benefit concert in June that was organised by Ariana Grande after the dreadful bombing during her concert at the Manchester Arena on 22 May 2017 where 22 people were killed and more than 500 were injured. The concert took place in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester and aired live on BBC1. 55,000 people attended and a host of stars, including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Little Mix, Coldplay, Pharrell Williams, Robbie Williams and Niall Horan, performed to raise money for the ‘We Love Manchester Emergency Fund” that was set up by Manchester City Council and the Red Cross. Tickets for the concert went for £40 and there were no booking fees.
This was a brilliant event, but quite emotional, and was well organised with plenty of stewards available – they also ensured that everyone was safely escorted back to the train station after the concert. Queueing and standing was the same as it is for most of these events and can get pretty tiring on the legs! We got a great view of the stage, though, and it is an event that will be remembered for a long time to come.
