Lytham St Annes – January 2023

A weekend in Lytham St Annes – Just arrived!

Well, January is not the best month of the year, as Christmas soon seems like a distant memory and spring is still a little way off. So, I decided to get the beginning of the year off to a good start by taking a couple of days somewhere not too far away. January is a time to find a few cheap deals in the UK, so if you don’t mind braving the potential wind and rain then you can easily find some bracing sea air and make the most of being outdoors without breaking the bank!

I arrived in Lytham on the Friday afternoon and was surprisingly lucky with the weather as, after a few weeks of persistent rain and even snow and ice, it was sunny with clear skies and quite warm. Lytham St Annes is a lovely Victorian seaside town that is south of Blackpool on the Fylde coast and only about an hour’s drive from my home. My accommodation was a small boutique hotel directly opposite the lovely sandy beach of St Annes and a short walk from St Annes town centre. I had a great sea view from the third floor and a little balcony.

You can walk all the way along the front at St Annes along a promenade path that goes past the award-winning beach huts and then crosses the grassland area. You can then take a stroll along part of the beach. So, I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying this experience, especially as the weather was so good. I walked back towards the pier, but it was unfortunately closed due to some out-of-season renovations. In the summer months, St Annes seafront is a hive of industry and offers everything from an indoor swimming pool and small cinema to gardens and a miniature railway.

My evening was spent relaxing in the pub just across the road, deciding how to spend the following day and make the most of my short stay.
