The next stop on our Canada adventure was the Capilano River and Suspension bridge. This was a great outdoor experience that included a trip over the suspension bridge and a treetops adventure around suspended trails in the rainforest.
The amazing Capilano park is one of North Vancouver’s most popular attractions and pulls in over 1000 visitors every year. The 27-acre park includes the suspension bridge and several other outdoor activities. The bridge is suspended 230-feet above the river. It is an impressive sight, but a little shaky to cross at times; especially when people start jumping on it as they go along. I thought I was going to catapult over the edge at one point! Still, a great experience all the same. If you happen to visit here between the end of November and early January, you will be treated to a wonderful display of twinkling lights above the treetops – I would love to see this!
The park is also home to a collection of totem poles, some of which are carved on site and others that date back to the early nineteen century. You can take history tours here, too, that will help you to immerse yourself in the history of the park and learn all about the construction of this magnificent bridge.
And finally, if you need a bite to eat and something to drink, Capilano offers a number of dining options – you can choose from coffee shops and ice cream parlours to mouth-watering grills. Oh, and don’t forget those little souvenirs: ‘The Trading Post’ can offer everything you could possibly want to purchase from jewellery, leather goods and clothing to the delicious Capilano fudge that comes in many different flavours.
